I've been contemplating a blog for a while now but honestly didn't know if anyone would be interested in hearing about just me. So, here goes nothing. I'll start this off with the one thing that brings me the most joy and the most pain (besides my family)...running. I run, well, a lot. I run for health. I run for fun. I run for a cause. I run when I need a break. I run when I don't need a break. I think the basic thing to remember is...I RUN!
Running didn't come easy to me and after 7 years, 5 half-marathons, 2 relay races, 1 10 miler, 4 8Ks, and countless 5Ks it still is hard for me to cross every finish line. I'm slow. Truth be told, I run just fast enough to meet the minimum requirements in most races I run. I've never finished a race in the front of the pack but that doesn't bother me. I've finished a couple dead last and that's OK too. Of course, I would like to be faster but running does something for me that I don't want to give up no matter how long it takes.
Right now I'm training to run the Nike Women's Half-Marathon in San Francisco this October. It will be my most challenging race to date but I'll do just about anything for some race bling. This race takes that bling to a whole new level and each finisher is presented with a sterling silver Tiffany necklace at the finish. This necklace is encapsulated in a tiny Tiffany blue cinch bag which is then encapsulated in a Tiffany blue box tied with a shiny white ribbon. As if that wasn't enough, you receive the delicious bling from local San Francisco firemen clad in tuxedos.
Seriously, I would crawl past the finish line of any race for that. :)
Probably the most special part of this race is that I'm running with a team. This isn't just any team, this is Team in Training. Together, we will run countless miles, travel, sleep, and race together all united to put an end to blood cancers like Leukemia, Lymphoma & Myloma. This group of people has become family to me. I spend every Saturday sweating in the Florida heat to train with them and most days am either participating or planning another fundraising opportunity. This will be my third race with Team but I'm already planning my fourth.
So, that seems like a pretty good place to start and finish this first blog post. I don't know how often I'll post or what I'll post, but I promise you it will be interesting to me. :)
